Fleet Marine Life #117 – Eternal Training
During my last few months of my active duty service, I was forced to do a bunch of unnecessary annual training that otherwise could have been taken by people who needed it.
I was put on rifle range during my last 4 months in the Corps for some reason. I needed to check out but they said that I’ll be able to check out after the Rifle Range, swim qual, gas chamber, a PFT, a CFT, the list went on and on. It was a bunch of lies.
I turned in my CIF gear as soon I could so they couldn’t get me to do anything.
A guy in my platoon had two months left in the Corps. Instead of letting him check out of the Corps, they put him on the rifle range. So he went up to the CO of our company and the CO yelled at him.
CO : What?! You have two months left?! So what! You have two months left to train! Get the fuck out of my office!
I could have EAS’d 3 months earlier if it wasn’t for my company trying to keep everyone, including the short-timers, busy just for the sake of looking busy. Is it so wrong for the short-timers to do their own thing and check out? I mean, they have 6 months left in the Corps! They don’t have enough time to do anything or go anywhere! Just leave them alone!
Doing unnecessary training while checking out of the Corps since 1775.
When I was getting out they sent me to the gas chamber. What a crock of shit. The S-3 idiot who ran the thing comes into my office and says, ‘man, my throat is so hoarse from giving everyone instructions in there.’
1) get the fuck away from me
2) yeah, it’s your funeral, numb-nuts. You just fucked yourself in your early retirement years from being able to do anything fun. Check in with me when you’re 60, if you live that long
3) eat a billion dicks. I get out next month and had to get my cammies smelling like shit, irritating the fuck out of my eczema
Is it just me, or does time seem to go by 1000 times faster once you EAS?
no, it’s not just you
By the time we have 9 months left they should abandon all training ops for that person. How much money do they waste taking short timers on field ops?
I had to rifle qual 9 months before my EAS, swim qual three WEEKS before my EAS, and a PFT 2 months before my EAS. I got severe bronchitis before the CFT and wasn’t allowed to participate (thank God). The only one I did whole heartedly was the rifle qual, and I scored a 236. one year before my EAS I had a simple surgery and wasn’t allowed to to the gas chamber either.
Bullshit Olympics.
My favorite example of Marine Corps unlogic is this: “Somebody had better volunteer, or we’ll have to ‘voluntell’ somebody!” So, my choices are A) Volunteer, and do whatever bullshit it is they want me to, or B) Not volunteer, and take a CHANCE of being “voluntold,” the end result of which would be exactly the same as if I had volunteered.
Yep, in boot camp they’re like, ‘you’ll want to volunteer for Oki out the gate, or you could get sent there your last year.’
Ok, so for those who know math, after your 3-year orders, you’re in for about 4 years, so unless you’re re-enlisting, that’s not a thing.
